Nararation of Kannappa Nayanar
Nararation of Kannappa Nayanar
Price : Sold Out
Depicted above is the story of Kannappa Nayanar on a non-traditional scheme...usin only black, white and yellow...

Here is a heads-up on the nayanars - the devotees of lord Shiva are called nayanar(s)..there are 63 of them as per Hindu mythology...each one has showcased their devotion in really unique ways..

I hav portrayed below the story of kannappa nayanar - a devotee who had flawless affection for his lord n he proved that the lord will melt for true devotion, even if it s in its crudest form, not adhering to the rules n rituals of the religion..

Kannappa, as he was called, was a forest hunter by profession; it so happened that one day as he was going into the forest, he saw the idol of Lord Shiva amidst trees - he immediately felt an unknown urge to go near it - in no time, he was on his way to prayer of the great Lord on a daily basis..

Prayer in his own world comprised of making a garland of forest flowers for the lord, hunting forest animals and offering it to the god, and other such methods, not paying so much attention to the ritualistic practices..A brahman who was taking care of the temple started feeling uneasy about the way the temple was handled by the hunter and he complained to the lord about it - but the lord replied saying that he s a true devotee and asked the Brahman to come the next day and watch the hunter's activities by hiding behind a tree..

So the hunter came the next day as usual and started with his activities - but the lord played a game today to prove to the Brahman tat Kannappa was a flawless devotee - suddenly blood started dripping from the lord's right eye and to the Brahman's surprise, the hunter immediately plucked his own eye with the arrow and fixed it on the lord - and wow, the blood stopped dripping..n the finest part of the show comes now - to kannappa's shock, blood started dripping from the left eye of the lord - though kannappa was ready to pluck his own left eye also, he had to find a way to fix the spot of the lord's left eye because once he has removed his own eye he ll be totally blind - so he used his leg as a marker on the lord's face and was about to pluck his own left eye when the lord himself appeared before him and embraced him for his true love towards HIM. Thus, he became Kannappa Nayanar.

Miniature Paintings

These are Rajasthan miniature paintings;

Size - 11" by 14"
Medium - poster colours

The speciality of miniatures is that we bring in as many details as possible within as small a space. This way the artists get a very good brush control and it looks very appealing to the viewer because its a very intricate work.

Siporex stone carving - Kathakali

Category: Siporex Stone Carving
Status : Sold Out

This is a Siporex stone carving work - a kathakali face -this is the first customized order that I have taken up from my Mallu friend!!!
Generally kathakali faces are very colourful - but my client insisted that he wanted a non-traditional kathakali face..

Kathakali On Siporex

This was made from this plain block of stone by first marking the outline and then carefully carving out the features and designs - it has to be done only using blunt tools as this is a very soft stone  and sharp tools will damage the stone and its very difficult to patch it up..

Pot Paintings

Tried out the crackle effect on this..here a base lighter colour is first applied, allowed tk dry completely, then a later of crackle medium is applied - when its half-dry and tacky, a coat of the darker colour is applied they are allowed to dry completely - in the process, the crackle medium crackles and exposes the layer of paint lying beneath its surface, thus giving this beautiful effect..!!

Tried this using the blocking technique where we try to reproduce the original picture by using jus lines, not bothering about the exact curves..once the original picture falls into proportion, we then fine tune to get the actual figure..
